The Soul of Montsant

This is a very easy route, apt for all walkers and ideal for children. It takes us to one of the most emblematic and fascinating corners of the Montsant mountain range and Priorat region.

This route is sponsored by the inn and restaurant Fonda Toldrà in Ulldemolins

Paths of armies and hermits

Recommendations:

The Llisera trail is geologically fascinating. The Montsant massif is a towering presence. There are some slightly aerial sections. This is not a dangerous path, but you have to take care, especially if you are with children. You are recommended to avoid the hottest times of day in summer.

Carthusian Trail

The beauty of bare places

Recommendations:

The rocky Grau dels Tres Esglaons route is very well equipped with metal rungs, but can be rather exposed for people with vertigo. In this case, or if you have children with you, it is better to go up and down by the Grau del Tomaset, also known as the Grau de Montsant, the path traditionally used by the people of Cornudella to get up to the Serra Major, the main ridge of the Montsant massif. You should fill your tater bottles at the chapel.

Margalef Landscapes - Barranc de Sant Salvador

This route follows the Barranc de Sant Salvador (a barranc is a more or less seasonal watercourse) and shows you the way the land is used and exploited at this end of the Montsant massif. You'll see a landscape shaped by spectacular espones (the local name for drystone retaining walls) and terraces largely used in the past for olive and almond trees. Today's route takes in places that tell of how the people of Margalef lived, like the Mas del Morerar, the Ximet cave or the different structures to manage water, all adapted to the terrain.
