Climbing around Siurana
Siurana, where the first sport climbing routes were bolted over 30 years ago, is considered a climbing paradise, a place to which climbers flock from all over the world. It's renowned for its old-school vertical, crimpy pitches. Its south-facing cliffs are perfect for climbing most of the year, even in winter.
With over 1,700 routes distributed in different places, it boasts a wide range of grades so that everybody, from beginners to the most experienced climbers, can enjoy its stunning walls. The highest grade to be found here is 9b. Siurana and its area have a multitude of climbing routes distributed across different sectors.
The rock type found around Siurana is the limestone known as Muschelkalk, which can be of two very different kinds depending on what height it is at, dividing crags and sectors into 2 levels. The higher of these is characterised by straight lines and fragmented, stratified rock. The lower part consists of rougher, monolithic rock.
The most famous routes include La Rambla 9a+, L'Anabolica 8a, Triquiñuelas del Peonaje 6c and L'Odi Social 8c+, and the most outstanding sectors that best represent Siurana are:
